LOCAL NEWS-
The Polk County Commissioners held the final meeting for 2016 on Tuesday in Crookston and approved the levy and budget for 2017. The levy was increased three percent over 2016 with the budget itself at approximately $67 to $68 million. “The levy covers about one third of our revenue,” said Polk County Administrator Chuck Whiting. “The board has been working on the budget since early August, staff even back further than that. We’ve done a lot of cutting and did a lot of moving around. I think we’ve got a good budget for next year to let the new board come in and get familiar with the organization and get on with business as usual in January.”  The first meeting of 2017 will be January 3 with the business meeting starting at 8:00 a.m. and they will swear in Gary Willhite and Jerry Jacobson and get into business right away.  “A lot of it is determining committee appointments and setting up some of the basic annual things that we do and are supposed to do at the first business meeting of the year,” said Whiting.
The Polk County Commissioners salary was set at $29,764.12 and $75 per diem for each committee meeting in 2017. The county administrator salary was set at $129,001.60 while the country attorney will receive $118,160.80 and the sheriff will get $102,007.20.
