The holidays are a time of giving and the Crookston community is at its best
when it comes to helping those in need. Families with children at Highland and
Washington Schools are helped out during the holiday season thanks to Tara
Miller, Family Service Specialist at the Northwestern Health Center, who has an
office at Highland School. Tara has a social work background and does a variety
of things including home visits, coordinating material needs, individual and
group therapy at the school and works in the community with crisis work, but one
of her favorite times of year is being able to help families in the holiday
season and the Crookston community is great in helping the kids and families at
Highland and Washington School. “Our needs grow every year, but the wonderful
thing about working here in Crookston is we really have a very generous, caring
community,” said Miller. “All throughout the month of December people bring me
donations that I haven’t even asked for. It is really amazing. There are a
couple farmers in the area that have brought me Hugo’s and Walmart gift cards
every year for 10 years....
