LOCAL NEWS-
The Crookston City Council had a busy
meeting this week, beginning with the Truth In Taxation hearing, featuring a
proposed budget presentation by Angel Weisner. The City Council met briefly
following the hearing, where council members voted to adopt resolutions for a
Capital Improvement Plan for 2017-2021, the 2017 Budget, and the Property Tax
Levy for taxes payable in 2017.
The Ways and Means Committee met following the council meeting, where they
reviewed and approved the Strategic Plan presented by Scott Riopelle and Don
Cavalier from the Park Board. Riopelle explained that the goal of the plan is to
provide a “guide for the Park Board, and for the betterment of the community.”
Many of the items addressed in the plan were gleaned from surveys filled out by
attendees at this year’s Night to Unite.
Additional highlights of the Plan noted by Riopelle include an effort to include
all geographic sectors of the community, include all ages in recreational
opportunities, and continue to fund the Kids First program, along with the
possibility of setting up a foundation to provide scholarships to involve more
youth in community sports programs. Cavalier noted that the Park Board felt that
it was imperative that they create a “living document,” as “good ideas need
feedback.”
