LOCAL NEWS-
The Crookston Planning Commission met on Monday night right before City Council to vote on a conditional use permit request for a digital billboard sign at 1921 Sahlstrom Drive.  The planning commission voted to approve the billboard permit request and passed it along to be voted on by Crookston City Council.  “The billboard was originally discussed on August 30 and the discussion was tabled so it was scheduled to continue this evening,” said Crookston Building Official Matt Johnson.  “They ended up recommending to the council that the conditional use permit to install the billboard be approved.”
The city council met soon after the planning commission and voted on the billboard permit.  The council voted to approve the conditional use permit, with only councilmember Tom Jorgens voting against it.  Jorgens cited the lack of exact details on the billboard made him uncomfortable to approve it.
While this may be the biggest hurdle that the billboard had to clear in order to be built, there are still more steps to be completed.  “The next step is to go to MNDOT to have it approved and at that point, they take out their permit,” said Johnson. “Then I review it and approve it and then they can start installing the billboard.”
