LOCAL NEWS-
Longtime Crookston resident, politician, and veteran Bernie Lieder will be honored by raising the Flag before the Minnesota Twins game as they host Cleveland this Sunday at Target Field.
The Twins organization gave Lieder a call a couple of months ago.  “It’s a day they wanted to honor veterans and it was my understanding that it was because I am a World War II veteran, but I learned that they wanted to honor all vets,” said Lieder.  “It is always a privilege to honor the veterans, as far as I’m concerned.”
Lieder served in the military for 21 and a half years. “I was in the regular Army and the Army Active Reserves.  One thing as a military person, if you talk to any veteran, it is always a privilege when you are dealing with the flag,” said Lieder. “To me it is an honor because it is something that has been instilled in us veterans, where you respect the flag as you would the President or the Governor.”
Lieder will be joined at the game by his three daughters as well as some of his legislative colleagues who have called him since hearing the news and wanted to experience the game with him.
