Agassiz Environmental Learning Center is Fertile will hold its Haunted Trail every Saturday in October from dusk to midnight. Admission is $5 per person. Popcorn, hot cocoa and pop will be available in the Nature Center Building. RiverView Health Auxiliary will be holding a Mitten Drive in the form of a Mitten Tree now through Tuesday, November 1, 2016.  The Mitten Tree is located in the front lobby of RiverView Health.  The public is invited to trim the tree with their donations of children’s winter mittens, gloves or hats.  Please no scarves.   The mittens, gloves and hats received will be distributed to area schools and given to children who need them.  RiverView Health Auxiliary thanks you for your support in warming hearts and hands this season through this important service project.

The Polk County Retirees will meet at the American Legion for lunch today at 11:30 am.

The Crookston ECI is hosting the 3rd annual Boo Run Run, a fun run/walk for the whole family!  Join us, in costume, Saturday, October 15th at Castle Park.  Registration begins at 9:30am, 1K at 10:00am and 5K at 10:30am.  Prizes will be awarded to first place finishers of the 1K and 5K and to the top 3 costumes!

Crookston Eagles will have Bar Bingo on Saturday, October 15th at 3:30pm.  $400 must go!  Turkey or Walleye Dinner will be from 6:00-7:00pm.  Take-outs are available.

Benefit Breakfast and Silent Auction for Disabled US Navy Veteran Tom O’Neill will be Sunday, October 16th from 8am-1pm at the Crookston American Legion.  Tom has been in and out of the hospital all summer and recently had his leg amputated.  Free will donation will help with his expenses.  Donations can also be dropped off at Fertile Bank.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Crookston will be celebrating their 120th Anniversary with a special worship service on October 16 at 10:00 a.m. to remember their German heritage. Following the service there will be a German Dinner served at 11:00 a.m. hosted by the Parish Fellowship Committee. The menu will feature B & E Meats German sausages, pork loin and sauerkraut, potatoes, homemade breads, German apple cake, root beer and Lutheran coffee. Everyone is welcome.

Catholic Daughters Court Bishop Schenk #2010 will celebrate Catholic Daughters Sunday at St. Peter’s Church in Gentilly on Sunday, October 16th at the 10:30 mass. Please call Jean LaJesse or Margee Keller if you need a ride.

Crookston Comedy Night will be Friday, October 28th at the Crookston Eagles Club.  Social gathering starts at 5, Dinner starts at 6, and the Show featuring Comedian John DeBoer begins at 9pm.  Dinner and Show tickets are $25 and include Steak or Chicken grilled by B&E Meats, Baked Potato, Corn, Salad, and a Roll.  Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance form the Blue Line Club office, Eagles Club, or B&E Meats.  If you have any questions, call Elliot at 470-0423.  Proceeds go to support Crookston Youth Hockey.

RiverView Health Rehab Services will be holding “A Matter of Balance’’ classes for anyone who has fallen in the past, has restricted activities because of falling concerns or is worried about falls. Eight two-hour sessions will be Monday and Wednesday, Oct. 17th through Nov. 9th, from 1 pm – 3 pm in RiverView’s  Meeting Room 4. Please use the Rehab Entrance on the south side of the building for easiest access. The classes are taught by RiverView Occupational Therapist Madeline Graff and Physical Therapist Assistant LueRae Geihsler. The class is free, but class size is limited, so early registration is stressed. For more information call 281-9463.

Altru Clinic in Crookston is set to host Living Well with Diabetes: a team based support group for patients/families on Monday, October 17 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in its conference room. This month’s focus is on Sleep Apnea with Diabetes with Sheila Thompson presenting. Call 281.9100 to register. There is no charge for this session.

The Catholic Daughters Court Bishop Schenk #2010 will meet Monday, October 17th at St. Mary’s in Euclid. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF LOCATION. United Way of Crookston will have its 17th Annual Soup & Chili Cook-off on Monday, October 17th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the CHS Commons.  Free will donation, proceeds help fund programs such as North Country Food Shelf, Eat United Summer Food Program, and Fisher School Summer Program.

CHEDA Board meeting will be Tuesday, October 18th at 7:00am at Valley Technology Park.

The Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Unit 14 will meet on Tuesday, October 18 at 12:30 in the Irishman’s Shanty Back room.

PTO Washington School Carnival will be Tuesday, October 18th from 5:30-7:30pm.  The evening will include food:  $2.50 for a corn dog, chips, and a bag of apples and 50 cents for milk or water.  Carnival Games will be 25 cents a game and include fishing for a prize, bean bag toss, rubber duck pond, hoop shot, and more.  Raffles will also be available for a bike, pool party, turkey, and theme baskets.  Tickets will be for sale at the door.

Wandering Vine will host a three part Handling Conflict Series facilitated by Sandra G. McNichol, who works professionally with individuals, families and organizations such as churches and government agencies,  on October 18 and 25, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 510 N. Broadway in Crookston. Anyone who desires a better approach to handling conflict is invited to attend. Cost is $30 and you must register by calling 281-4853 by October 7. Wandering Vine is a collaborative outreach ministry sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church and UMC Cooperative Campus Ministry.  

Journeying Through Grief is a series of six classes that will be held at the Crookston Public Library from 1:00-2:30 pm on October 18th, 25th, and November 1st, 8th, and 15th.  The sessions are free, but pre-registration is required due to limited space.  To register, please call 1-800-237-4629 and ask for the bereavement department.

The RiverView Auxiliary is hosting a Collective Goods Book and Gift Fair in Heritage Hallway at RiverView Health on Thursday, October 20th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and Friday, October 21st from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Be sure to stop by and check out all of the many items for sale.  Proceeds benefit Auxiliary projects for the year.

Zombie Fun Run will be October 21st and is a fundraiser for the Young at HeArt Community Center destined to be in the old Cathedral.  Proceeds go towards the Steeples and Steps projects.  The Zombie Fun Run Entry/Pledge Form is on the main page of www.prairieskyline.com, or call 218-289-1246 for a copy.  Turn in your Zombie Fun Run Entry/Pledge Form at 4pm at the Red Barn in Town Square.  The run/walk/crawl starts at 4:30.  The Zombie Fun Run is open to all fundraisers, individuals and teams.  Get the most pledges for the Community Center and win Best Fundraiser, also prizes for Best Costume and Best Zombie Walker.  Gut burgers (sloppy Joe’s) and fingernails (chips) available at 6pm at the Red Barn for a free will donation.  Of course, Zombies eat free!

“Sip and Sing” at Cofe’ will be Thursday, October 27th from 7:30-8:30pm.  Susan Lee will play guitar and lead the music and everyone is invited to enjoy a favorite beverage and sing some familiar songs and hymns.  Sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Church.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Beltrami, MN, Second Annual Ham & Potato Dumpling Supper, Sunday, October 30 from 4-7 pm. Menu includes potato dumplings, ham, vegetable, dessert & cider. Free will donation to benefit Trinity’s general fund is appreciated. Take outs available. Quilt raffle drawing at 7 pm.

Highland School will have Turkey Bingo on Thursday, November 3rd.  Doors open at 5:30 and Bingo begins at 6:00.  Cards will be $4 each and the Turkey Bingo is sponsored by Highland PTO.

Hunter Firearms Sight In-The rifle range at Crookston Gun Club will be open to the public to sight in firearms on the following dates:  Saturdays, October 15, 22 & 29 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and Sundays, October 16, 23 & 30 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM.  Targets will be furnished.  The range will not be open if it is raining or snowing.  If you have questions, call Wayne at 281-4343 or 280-2013.  Crookston Gun Club is located one mile north of UMC on Highway 75 and ¼ mile west.

Need to work off surplus energy?  Join other men at the Highland Gym for an evening of hoops. The Polk County Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4:00. Closed Mondays and holidays.

The City of Crookston twigs and branch collection will be held the second and fourth Monday of each month and will run through October. Branches must be cut in four foot lengths, bundled and placed on the curbside.

Open Swim at the Crookston Pool will be Monday-Friday 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday Noon to 3:00 p.m.
Lap Swimming will be Monday - Friday 6:00 to 9:00 a.m.
Aqua Exercise will be Monday - Friday 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Monday and Wednesday 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.
