Buy your season tickets now for the Crookston Civic Music League Entertainment Series at Montague’s Flower Shop. There will five musical performances this year and the ticket cost is $40 for an adult.

Movies on the Square will be tonight at dark at the Downtown Crookston Square. The Jungle Book will be showing and is sponsored by Polk County Social Services Employee Jean Donations.

Crookston Eagles will have King of Trails Sale on Saturday, September 10th on street level from 8am-Noon, followed by Bar Bingo at 3:30.  $400 must go!  Dinner of Stuffed Pork Chop or Walleye will be from 6:00-7:00pm.  Take-outs are available.

King of Trails City Wide Garage Sales will be held Saturday, September 10th.  Maps will be provided to the public with the addresses of the garage sales along with hours of operation. They will be distributed at the new Chalk It Up event at the Downtown Square as well local gas stations beginning Friday, September 9th at 6 pm. There is no charge to list your garage sale. Polk County North Star 4H Fundraising Rummage Sale will be September 10th from 9am-4pm at the Wish Upon a Star parking lot at 101 S. Broadway in Crookston. Serving burger or brat, chips and water for $5.00. Accepting donations – please call Melanie Lessard at 218-280-1468 to make arrangements.  Donations can be dropped off at Wish Upon A Star on the morning of the 10th only - Please do not drop items off before the 10th.

The First Annual Chalk It Up will be held Saturday, September 10th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Crookston Downtown Square.  The Crookston Visitor’s Bureau invites everyone from Crookston and the surrounding communities to join them to create artwork, or just come walk around and enjoy a the art.  No artistic background is needed.  Each participant will buy a four by four foot square and chalk for $5.  Download a registration form at facebook.com/ChalkItUpCrookston.  Ages 5 and under will have a free creative area.  Berry Burst will be on scene, as well as music from Anthony Diaz from 11:15 to Noon and 12:30 to 1:15.

Wild West Hoedown will be Saturday, September 10th from 1:00 p.m. to Midnight at the Industrial Building in the Polk County Fairgrounds of Fertile, MN.  Fun for all ages with inflatable games, hayrides, barrel train rides, chuckwagon dinner with chili and loaded baked potato bar from 4-7 pm, bard dance from 9-midnight, and more.  Win big with bingo starting at 1 pm, gun raffles, $10,500 cash raffle, kids’ bicycles raffle, and more.  Live Auction begins at 7 pm.  All proceeds benefit the building of the new St. Joseph’s Church.  Follow Wild West Hoedown on Facebook or call 218-945-6649 for more information.

Polk County Historical Society presents Pioneer Days on Sunday, September 11th from 11am-5pm at the Polk County Museum in Crookston.  Events open at 11:00 am with lunch being served, including pie and ice cream.  Exhibits, tours, and demonstrations throughout the day, including free wagon rides from 1-4pm, Storytelling and Singing from Eric Bergeson at 1pm, Lefse making demonstration at 2:30, Blacksmithing Demonstrations, Spinning Wheel Demonstrations, “Sun Country and You” Petting Zoo, and more.  Free Admission.

The 12th Annual Harvest Festival will be held on Sunday, September 11th at the Red River Valley Sugar Beet Museum in Crookston.  The event is free admission, with a pulled pork dinner starting at 11:30 a.m. and a demonstration of vintage sugar beet equipment starting at 1:30 p.m.  This year, the Warren Hasbargen family from Wahpeton, North Dakota will be honored. 

Crookston Rotary Club is having their 21st Annual Rose Sale.  One dozen roses is $15.  To order, please contact a Crookston Rotary Member.  Orders will also be taken at Crookston National Bank, Bremer Bank (Annette Thompson), Hardware Hank (Tracy Forseth), Riverview Gift Shop, and Crookston Welding (Kristi Nelson).  Last date to order is October 4th.  Pickup will be on Thursday, October 13th at Montague’s.  Professional arrangement ($7.00) and delivery ($3.00) are available upon request.

The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Competition will be held on Sunday, September 11th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Scott Kleven will be supervising, come on out and enjoy the fall weather and compete in the non-contact skills of football.  You do not have to be participating in football to compete.  The competition is FREE!

The First Assembly of God Church in Crookston will present a Movie Matinee feature, "The War Room" on Sunday, September 11 at 3 pm.  "The War Room" is a feature-length dramatization of the most potent weapon in the arsenal of the Christian - prayer.  The public is invited to join us for this special event, followed by refreshments in our Fellowship Hall, and a drawing for a DVD copy of this film.  No admission will be charged for this event, but a suggested donation of $2 per person is asked to help cover showing costs.  For more information, contact the church at (218) 281-3333 or by e-mail at crookstonag@midconetwork.com.

The Wesley United Methodist Church will have a Wood Fired Pizza Party on Sunday, September 11 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at 701 Eickhof Blvd. in Crookston.  Up to 40 pizza orders will be taken and made in their “Bread of Life Wood Fired Oven.”  The Valley Fiddlers will also be performing. Free will offering.  Bring a lawn chair for outside seating. In case of inclement weather it will be held inside.

Regional Corrections Board Meeting will be Monday, September 12th at 9:30 am in the Polk County Justice Center Conference Room 3.  Please note the time change.

On Monday, September 12 from 10 am to 2 pm, Altru Clinic in Crookston, Crookston Police Department, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Department will give the public an opportunity to prevent unintentional poisoning, medication theft and abuse by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medications. Bring your medications to the Altru Clinic parking lot at 400 South Minnesota Street, for a convenient drive up, drop off Medication Take Back Day.

The Crookston School Board meeting will be held on Monday, September 12 at 5:00 pm in the Choir/Orchestra Room at Crookston High School.  Meeting is open to the public.

The Villa St Vincent Auxiliary will meet on September 12th in the Library at the Villa.  Please note date change due to Labor Day.

Tour of the current Crookston bus garage at 115 East 4th Street will be Tuesday, September 13th starting at 4 pm.  A Public Forum to discuss the possibility of a new bus garage, along with a new Sports Complex and gymnasium addition to the current High School will be Thursday, September 22nd at 6:00 pm in the CHS Commons.

Crookston Chamber of Commerce announces its Ox Cart Committee is planning to have ongoing meetings throughout the year in preparations for next year’s event. Please join on Tuesday, September 13th at 4:30 pm at the Polk County Museum in the back auditorium (next to Happy Joe’s). This meeting is open to the public and for anyone interested in being involved in the many aspects of the festival planning process, and is not just for business owners. There are many opportunities for individuals, clubs, groups, or families to be involved and all are invited to join.

Crookston Classic Cruisers will meet on Wednesday September 14th at the Crookston Inn.  Board meets at 6:30 PM. Membership follows at 7:00 PM.

The AARP Driver Safety Class will be held on Thursday, September 15th starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Golden Link Senior Center in Crookston.  This is the 4 hour defensive driving refresher course for drivers age 55 and older.  Please call the Golden Link at 218-281-3072 to register.

RiverView’s Celiac Support Group will meet Thursday, Sept. 15th in Meeting Room 2 of RiverView Health at 5:30 pm. The group meets the third Thursday of each month, March-November. Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) will offer a brief pro-life presentation at Crookston Evangelical Covenant Church on Thursday, September 15th at 7:00 p.m. You will learn about how to help pregnant women in need, Minnesota abortion statistics, efforts to overturn our law against assisted suicide, and more. Discover how you can make a difference in protecting human life. All are welcome to come and enjoy fellowship and refreshments at this free one-hour PowerPoint presentation. Each attendee will receive a packet of printed materials.

Crookston VFW Post 1902 will have “Ronnie’s Donut Sundaes” fundraiser on Friday, September 16th from 3:00-6:00pm.  It is a free will offering and a donation will be made from the proceeds to the “Walk By Faith” Therapeutic Riding Program in Fisher, MN in memory on Ron DeLage.

The Crookston Eagles will be welcoming Grand Worthy President Jerry Sullivan on Friday, September 16 at 6:30pm.  The whole public is welcome to a Meet and Greet with Dinner.  Dress is casual.  Dinner will be stuffed chicken, baked potato, vegetable medley, and salad.  The Crookston Eagles will be presenting Kent Bruun of Riverview Foundation with a $3,000 grant.  Grand Worthy President Jerry Sullivan will proudly accept donations to his charity-Lupus (check made to F.O.E. St. Timothy’s Church of Manvel, ND is hosting their Annual Fall Dinner on Sunday, September 18th from 11am-3pm at the Manvel Senior & Community Center.  Menu includes Turkey & Dressing, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Cranberries, Polish Sausage & Sauerkraut, Coleslaw, Buns, Kolaches, and Dessert.  Adults-$11; 6-12 years-$5; Pre-school-free.  There will also be a Raffle for four $100 gift certificates, Bake Sale, and Farmers Market.  Everyone is welcome.  Located 10 miles North of Grand Forks on I-29.  WelCore will be available 10:30 am-2pm to administer Fall Vaccines.

Crookston High School will have ‘Next Step Night’ on Wednesday, September 21st from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the CHS Commons.  “Nest Step Night’ is geared toward Seniors, Juniors, and Parents.  All High School Students are welcome.  The purpose of Next Step Night is to provide information and answers to the questions students and parents have about the college process and preparing for it.

Celebrate the Young Child will be having their family event "Heroes in Action" at Wildwood Park on Thursday, September 22, from 5:30-7:30pm. There will be music, speech, sports, art, robotics, and free pizza.

There will be a Community Education Chinese Cooking Class on making Sweet and Sour Chicken with Pineapple & Spring Rolls on Thursday, September 22 from 6-8pm.  Class Fee - $5 made to Community Education and $15 Supply Fee made out to Confucius Institute.  Please bring your own container.

The Villa St Vincent will be having a bake sale on Tuesday Sept. 27th starting at 10am.  Please use the main entrance of the Villa St Vincent.  All items will be made in house.  Some of the items we will be selling are bread, bars, cakes and caramel rolls. Come and shop the Villa.

Need to work off surplus energy?  Join other men at the Highland Gym for an evening of hoops. Crookston area Adult Basic Education will have an Open House at new location. 2015 Sahlstrom Dr. Suite 5, right across from Walmart in the Minnesota Department of Economic and Employment Development Office, on Friday, September 30th from Noon to 4:00.

Due to the overwhelming amounts of rain we've been receiving, Valley Corn Maize will be closed this weekend, September 9-11. Check their website or Facebook for updated information. A Back to School supply project is being sponsored by the Catholic Daughters Court Bishop Schenk for the Cathedral Elementary School and the other local Crookston schools. This drive is in conjunction with Care and Share, the Salvation Army and the Crookston Rotary Bus project. Items needed are glue, notebooks, crayons, backpacks, mittens, socks, pencils, tissues, other clothing, etc. Supplies can be left in special containers in the gathering spaces at Cathedral, St Peter’s in Gentilly, and St Mary’s in Euclid. The Polk County Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday from noon to 4:00. Closed Mondays and holidays.

The City of Crookston twigs and branch collection will be held the second and fourth Monday of each month and will run through October. Branches must be cut in four foot lengths, bundled and placed on the curbside.

Open Swim at the Crookston Pool will be Monday-Friday 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday & Sunday Noon to 3:00 p.m.
Lap Swimming will be Monday - Friday 6:00 to 9:00 a.m.
Aqua Exercise will be Monday - Friday 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Monday and Wednesday 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Community Education is looking for people interested in teaching a class during the September thru May time period.  Class offerings can be a wide variety of programming related to skills and interests for youth and/or adults.  Sharing a hobby, skill, or interest is what it is all about.  Instructors through Community Ed will receive 80% of the revenue after expenses.  Please consider sharing your skills by teaching a class.  Choose the date and time that works for you.  They welcome new class ideas and instructors.  Contact Barb Jorgenson at the Community Education Office at 218-281-5078.
