One Vegetable, One Community launches at D & D Thomforde Garden Center on Sunday from 12 to 3 with kids activities, RiverView Bike Rodeo, Safe Kids, Food Truck & samples, Bike Helmets for $5 and more.  This year’s vegetable will be a tomato so you can learn how to plant and take care of them to produce fruit.

The Bible Baptist Church in Crookston will be having a 40th Anniversary Celebration with a special speaker at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd. They are located one mile east of Highland School. Everyone is invited.

The Crookston School Board will meet on Monday, May 23rd at 5:00 p.m. in the choir/orchestra room at the high school. The meeting is open to the public

Crookston City Council will meet at 7:00 Monday night in the City Hall Council Chamber. The Ways and Means Committee will meet immediately after in the City Hall Conference Room.   Open to Everyone.

The Crookston Junior High School Music Department Spring Concert will be Monday, May 23rd, at 8:00 p.m., in the CHS Auditorium. The 7th-9th Grade Band, Choir & Orchestra will be performing. Please note the later start time. Admission is free.

RiverView Health Noon Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at noon in meeting room one at RiverView. Topic is “Stroke: Signs, Risk Factors and Prevention” with Dr. Balaraman. A boxed lunch can be purchased for $3, but must be ordered while pre-registering. Call Holly at 281-9745.

Villa St. Vincent dedication of the June Shaver Wellness Center will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday. Everyone welcome.

The Highland School will honor retirees Barb Chapman, Nancy Pearson and Jackie Coauette from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 24th at the Highland School Library. Pie and punch will be served.

A Spring Sing Sing Fund-Raiser at the Carnegie will be held Tuesday, May 24th from 7:30 to 8:30. The Crookston Men’s and Women’s Choruses will perform. Free will donations will be accepted.

The Crookston Park and Recreation Arbor Day with the 4th graders at Highland will take place at Highland Park Complex at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 27.   It has been rescheduled from Friday, May 13th.

Rodnes Church, rural Erskine, will host their 56th Annual Memorial Day Dinner which includes hot dishes, salads and desserts on Monday, May 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

A Memorial Day Program will be held at the Sand Hill Lutheran Church in rural Climax on Monday, May 30, at 10:30am. The speaker will be Tony Grainger, with special Music and the Crookston Honor Guard

Crookston School District #593 will honor eight school employee retirees at an End of the Year Celebration at the Crookston Eagles on Friday, June 3rd at 7:00. Retirees being honored are Deb Bina,  Deb Chapman, Toni  Grove, Frank Lindgren, Jim Mulligan, Nancy Pearson,  Shirley Simonson and Lonnie Thoreson. There will be a program and hors d’oeuvres, cake and punch will be served. Cost is $5.

RiverView Health and Extension will launch “I CAN Prevent Diabetes’’, a free year-long program that uses evidence-based information and best practices to promote healthy eating, weight loss, and physical activity. The group will meet starting on June 8th in Meeting Room 1 of RiverView Health, and meet every Wednesday for 16 weeks from 5 to 6 pm. After that, support and additional learning sessions will be offered on a monthly basis for eight months. The program is designed for people with pre-diabetes or at risk for diabetes.  Registration for the free program is required by June 3rd. The RiverView Health Care Center will host “Effective Communication Strategies’’, will be held Tuesday, June 28th, also in Meeting Room 4, from 6 to 7:30 PM. Attendees should use the Rehab Entrance on the south side of the building.

Eat United with free summer meals. Free lunches will be served for all youth ages 0-18 years, Monday through Thursday from 11:30-12:30 at the Lions Shelter at Highland Park Complex. Meals will be served June 13-August 11, but will be closed the week of July 4-7. Adults 19 years and older can eat for $4 a meal. T.H.E. The 25th Annual Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Camp is scheduled for July 10-16, 2016 at UMC.  

The CHS 14th Annual  Pirate Pride Golf Scramble will Friday, July 8th at  Minakwa. Registration at 9:00  and a 10:00 Shotgun Start.  4 member teams. 18 holes of golf. $50 per person includes a T-shirt and lunch at 11:00 includes sandwich, salad and chips. Students interested in taking the Summer driver education course should pick up a registration form at the High School Office.  The cost is $325 and must be paid on or before the first day of class.  There are no refunds once the class has started. The City of Crookston twigs and branch collection will be held the second and fourth Monday of each month and will run through October. Branches must be cut in four foot lengths, bundled and placed on the curbside.

 Crookston Swimming Pool hours are as follows: Open swimming -weekdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., weekends - noon to 3:00 p.m.  Lap Swim-6:00 to 10:00 a.m. weekdays. Aqua Aerobics -- 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. weekdays,  8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.
