The location of the Annual Rosary Convocation scheduled for today at Old Treaty Crossing Park in Huot, MN has changed. Due to weather, it will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Gentilly. The time of the event has not changed --4:30pm Rosary, 5:00pm Mass, meal & fellowship following Mass.

The Crookston VFW will have bar bingo today at 5:30.

The last free ECFE Pop-in and Play class for ages birth to 5 years and parents will be changed to Saturday, May 14, due to the rummage sale on May 21st at Washington School.

Rydell Refuge is “the place to be” on Saturday, May 14, from 1-3 p.m., as the Friends of Rydell and Glacial Ridge host The Raptor Center from the University of Minnesota, featuring their bald eagle exhibit, along with several other fascinating birds of prey.  The Rydell National Wildlife Refuge is located 3 miles south of Highway 2, between Mentor and Erskine, at 17788 349th St SE. RiverView Health will hold a 5K Walk/Run and a Kids ½ Mile Fun Run on Saturday, May 14th.  Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Rehab entrance on the south side of RiverView Health. Registration forms are available at under “Events.”  All pre-registered 5K participants will receive a free t-shirt.  $20 entry fee. For more information call 281-9211.

The Red River Valley Shows in Crookston is hosting barrel racing and pole bending on Saturday, May 14th beginning at noon. The event is free and open to the public.  Oak Pit Grille will have concessions available.

The Popple Ridge Pickers will perform gospel music in concert at the Crookston Evangelical Covenant Church on Sunday, May 15 at 6:00 p.m.  Refreshments will follow.  Everyone is welcome.

Climax-Shelly School will have their Pre-School Screening on Monday, May 16th. Children who will be 4 by September 1, 2016 may be screened and are eligible for Pre-School in the fall. Call 857-2385 for an appointment.

The School Readiness and ECFE end of the year picnic will be Monday, May 16, from 6pm-7pm at the Washington School Playground. In the event of rain, activities will be held inside.

The Crookston High School Band Concert will be Monday, May 16th at 7:30 in the auditorium.

The 6th Annual Northern Valley Police Week Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. on the Grand Forks County Courthouse Lawn, 124 4th St., Grand Forks, N.D.

The AARP Driver Safety Class will be held on Thursday, May 19th starting at 9:00 a.m. at the Golden Link Senior Center in Crookston.  This is a 4 hour defensive driving refresher course for drivers age 55 and older. To register call 281-3072.

A 100 year birthday celebration for Allen Pederson, hosted by the Crookston Rotary Club, will be held on Thursday, May 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Crookston American Legion. RiverView’s Celiac Support Group is changing its meeting dates to the third Thursday of each month, March-November. The group will meet at RiverView Health in Meeting Room 2 at 5:30 pm, with the exception of the May 19th meeting which will be held at Wonderful Life Foods at 115 N. Main Street in Crookston for a meal. Each individual is responsible for the cost of their meal.  For more information, contact 281-9371.

The 5th Annual ECFE Rummage Sale will be Saturday, May 21, from 9am-1pm at the Washington School Gym.

The building that currently houses the Climax Public Library at 104 West Broadway was built in 1916, beginning as the Erickson Brothers Mercantile, which was owned and founded by the Erickson Brothers. Their descendants will be at the Climax Public Library to share photos and stories of the general store and the Climax community on Saturday, May 21 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. The Bible Baptist Church in Crookston will be having a 40th Anniversary Celebration at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 22nd. There will have a special guest speaker. They are located one mile east of Highland School. Everyone is invited.

The Crookston Junior High School Music Concert will be on Monday, May 23rd at 8:00 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium.

RiverView Health Noon Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 24th at noon in meeting room one at RiverView. Topic is “Stroke: Signs, Risk Factors and Prevention” with Dr. Balaraman. A boxed lunch can be purchased for $3, but must be ordered while pre-registering. Call Holly at 281-9745.

A Spring Sing Sing Fund-Raiser at the Carnegie will be held Tuesday, May 24th from 7:30 to 8:30. The Crookston Men’s and Women’s Choruses will perform. Free will donations will be accepted.

Rodnes Church, rural Erskine will host their 56th Annual Memorial Day Dinner on Monday, May 30th.  Menu to include Hotdishes, Salads, Desserts.  Serving 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Everyone welcome.

Crookston School District #593 will honor eight school employee retirees at an End of the Year Celebration at the Crookston Eagles on Friday, June 3rd at 7:00. Retirees being honored are Deb Bina,  Deb Chapman, Toni  Grove, Frank Lindgren, Jim Mulligan, Nancy Pearson,  Shirley Simonson and Lonnie Thoreson. There will be a program and hors d’oeuvres, cake and punch will be served. Cost is $5.

The RiverView Health Care Center will host “Effective Communication Strategies’’, will be held Tuesday, June 28th, also in Meeting Room 4, from 6 to 7:30 PM. Attendees should use the Rehab Entrance on the south side of the building.

Eat United with free summer meals. Free lunches will be served for all youth ages 0-18 years, Monday through Thursday from 11:30-12:30 at the Lions Shelter at Highland Park Complex. Meals will be served June 13-August 11, but will be closed the week of July 4-7. Adults 19 years and older can eat for $4 a meal. T.H.E. The 25th Annual Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) Camp is scheduled for July 10-16, 2016 at UMC.

Students interested in taking the Summer driver education course should pick up a registration form at the High School Office.  The cost is $325 and must be paid on or before the first day of class.  There are no refunds once the class has started. The City of Crookston twigs and branch collection will be held the second and fourth Monday of each month and will run through October. Branches must be cut in four foot lengths, bundled and placed on the curbside.

 Parenting 101 classes are from 3:30-5:00 every Wednesday at Washington School.

 Crookston Swimming Pool hours are as follows: Open swimming -weekdays from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., weekends - noon to 3:00 p.m.  Lap Swim-6:00 to 10:00 a.m. weekdays. Aqua Aerobics -- 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. weekdays,  8:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday. RiverView Health will have free, monthly meetings for people with Type 2 diabetes and their family members in Meeting Room 1 at 5:00 p.m. the last Wednesday of each month through May and will resume in September.
